BUSINESS CONTINUITY MANAGEMENT

Meritec provides support for the development of Business Continuity Plans (BCP) using a developed methodology which conforms to the BS25999 Business Continuity Standard. The methodology ensures that Key Business Processes are identified, the services and entities on which those processes are dependent are analysed, the risks to those dependencies are assessed and finally Preventative, Protective and Contingency measures to mitigate the identified risks are put in place.

The methodology is being incorporated into a hosted service which supports the development of the plan, management of the identified risks, documentation of the processes which constitute the plan and allocation of actions to put those processes in place. The hosted service thereafter provides the means of ensuring that the plan is easily kept up to date, which is essential but more often than not the most problematic aspect of Business Continuity Planning with traditional paper based methodologies.

The BS25999 standard highlights the need to have a Business Continuity Policy in place as a starting point, stating that ‘The Business Continuity Policy should provide the organisation with documented principles to which it will aspire and against which its business continuity capability should be measured’.
